About Us
In Nigeria’s urban poor and rural communities, community health workers have long been trusted for maternal care. While their accessibility and influence within the communities are unmatched, their limited training and unhygienic conditions have contributed to high rates of maternal and neonatal mortality. The GEANCO Maternal and Infant Clinic Initiative was created to address these challenges and has since grown into a transformative movement, improving healthcare access and outcomes across several Nigerian states.
Since its inception, the GEANCO Maternal and Infant Clinic Initiative has made significant strides in providing high-quality healthcare to underserved women and children. What started as a focused effort to enhance maternal care has evolved into a comprehensive healthcare solution, successfully integrating modern medical practices with culturally accepted methods.

The Five Legs of the GEANCO Maternal and Infant Clinic Initiative
Our initiative is anchored on five key pillars that guide our efforts and ensure the delivery of exceptional healthcare through our modular clinics:
1.
An Equipped Micro Facility that effectively meets the needs of its users.
2.
Operated by Registered nurse midwives, with Community Health Workers who adequately diagnose, manage and care for their patients.
3.
Observing Good Management Protocols including a well-defined organizational structure, operations system, financial accounting and customer relationship management.
4.
Held Accountable with Periodic Inspections to ensure that standards are met and integrity sustained..
5.
Collaboration with other Medical Officers – doctors, medical lab scientists and others who offer specialized services to enable holistic care and optimise value for the community.
Since launching in late 2020, the GEANCO Maternal and Infant Clinic Initiative has achieved remarkable success:
Our Features: Expanding Impact and Services
Expansion of Clinics:
We have established six modular clinics, including three in Enugu and three in Anambra States. Due to high client flow, two of these clinics in Anambra, have been expanded to include extra wards, enhancing our capacity to provide care.
Comprehensive Care for All Ages:
Our clinics now offer healthcare services for people of all ages, including the elderly.
Periodic Training for Health Workers:
The goal is to improve the outcome of deliveries and patients by improving the knowledge and skills of the local health workers in the health centers.
Sanitation and Waste Management:
Our clinics maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, with proper sanitation facilities and waste management systems, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Solar-Powered Facilities:
We have equipped our clinics with solar power systems, ensuring uninterrupted care and the preservation of vaccines and other critical supplies.
Electronic Patient Record System (EPRS):
Our cloud-based EPRS allows us to securely track patient information across all clinics, providing real-time access to data and enhancing the continuity of care.
Improved Referral Systems:
Our midwives and clinic owners now quickly recognize danger signs during pregnancy, coordinating with partner hospitals for effective emergency responses. We also employ emergency response riders for swift transportation in urgent cases.
Operational and Financial Sustainability:
Our centralized operational model ensures that clinics are financially sustainable, with community health workers playing a crucial role in maintaining operations. After one year of technical support, they have successfully managed clinic activities and collaborated closely with other healthcare professionals.
Support Groups for Continuous Improvement:
We have established support groups for community health workers, fostering accountability, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement in care delivery.
